Old, faded wood chips have a way of making an otherwise nice yard look tired. The color washes out, the texture breaks down, and before long your beds just blend into the background. Swapping them out for fresh black mulch is one of the simplest ways to sharpen up the whole property.

Black mulch works because of the contrast. Against green grass, stone edging, and the natural colors of your plants, that deep charcoal tone makes everything pop. The beds look intentional. The borders look clean. Even established plants and trees end up looking more prominent once the mulch around them is fresh and dark.

What we really like about a job like this is how the mulch works with everything else already in place - the curved stone edging along the back bed, the circular tree ring up front, the paver areas near the entrance. Good mulch installation isn't just dumping material and walking away. It's about getting even coverage, keeping it off the crowns of plants, and making sure the edges stay crisp where the mulch meets the lawn.

On top of the curb appeal side of things, fresh mulch actually does a job. It holds moisture in the soil, keeps weed pressure down, and insulates roots. So you're not just getting a better-looking yard - you're giving your beds a better environment to grow in.

If your beds are running on faded, crusty chips from a season or two ago, this is a pretty easy call. Fresh black mulch is one of the most cost-effective upgrades you can make to the front or back of a home.
