Some driveways just need a fresh load of gravel thrown on top. Others need to be regraded from scratch before any material goes down. This one fell into the second category. Years of use had left the surface uneven, and without fixing the grade first, new gravel would have just shifted and settled the same way.

We brought in the skid steer and regraded the full length of the driveway before laying Class 5. That part matters a lot. Class 5 is an angular, compacted gravel mix that locks together under traffic - it holds its shape, drains well, and doesn't migrate the way round stone does. It's the right material for a driveway that gets regular use and needs to stay put.

The second piece of this job was the mulch path winding through the wooded area of the property. We topped it with fresh shredded hardwood mulch, which is one of our go-to materials for naturalistic paths like this. It lays flat, stays in place reasonably well, and fits right into a wooded setting without looking out of place.

Put it all together and you've got a property that just works better. The driveway handles traffic the way it should. The path is clean and usable. Nothing fancy - just solid work done right.

That's honestly what most outdoor improvement jobs come down to. Not flashy upgrades, but getting the basics right with the right materials and the right process. Gravel driveway installation and mulch work are two of the things we do regularly, and jobs like this one are a good example of how much of a difference the details make.
